What is to consider when driving a Motorbike in the Philippines
Drivers Licence
When Driving a Motorcycle in Philippine, you need a valid Driver License. For the first three Months of your stay your national Drivers License is good enough. Its helpful but not necessary if you have an international license as well. If you stay longer than 3 Months in Philippines you’ll have to apply for the Philippine drivers license. You can either make a new one or overwrite your foreign License in a national philippine License. More information you’ll find here!
Traffic in the Philippines
For Motorcycle Drivers there are beautiful roads here in the Philippines, beautiful Mountains or Beaches to explore, amazing Views… but only if you are an experienced Driver! Always Expect the Unexpected. Thats the basic rule of driving in the Philippines. If its a hole in the Road, a Cow passing the street, a Jeepney driver doing strange things, if theres someone making a U-Turn at places noone would expect him to do,… All, and I clearly mean ALL things can happen on philippine roads. So always be prepared and ALWAYS drive defensly! There are traffic rules in the Philippines, but sadly nearly noone knows ore obeys them!
Safety Clothes
It makes Sense wearing safety Clothes, no question. A good helmet essential, but how about other security Clothes? You will drive in a Country with high temperatures, so especially in Cities or Villages with stop and go traffic it will be extremly hot. Its our recommendation to wear good Protector Vests, so that its not getting too hot when driving! Also, especially if you’re planning to go offroad, protectors for your knees and ellbows are highly recommended.
Express Way
There are some Express Ways in Luzon, interesting for you is the NLEX and SLEX, North and South Luzon Express Way! You are only allowed to use them with motorbikes with a minimum of 400cc. Our Cafe Racer are Expressway legal! They are equipped with a RFID Chip, so that you dont need to pay yourself! You can load the RFID Chip in many places, for example in 7-eleven shops!
Insurance
We really would like to offer you an insurance but sadly, there is NO insurance available for you travelling with rented Bikes. We tried at any big Insurance Companies national and international, and sadly they all deny to make Travel Insurances for rented Motorcycles. If there are Rental Shops who sell you an insurance, read the small Textes… All Travel Insurances exclude damages with rented Motorcycles. So be aware that in case of accidents you will have to shoulder all the costs.
